Newcastle Stevedores commenced operations on 3rd March,
1997, with the discharge of Petcoke on behalf of Kooragang
Bulk Facilities (KBF). From these humble beginnings Newcastle
Stevedores has grown to become by far and away the largest
provider of Containerised, Bulk and General Cargo stevedoring
services in the Port of Newcastle.
Newcastle Stevedores primarily handles Containers and
B/Bulk at either Eastern Basin No.1 or No.2, with both
berths enjoying access to 7,000m2 of undercover storage
on site, 2,000m2 off site and 75,000m2 of open air consolidation
area capable of handling a huge variety of cargoes ranging
from containers, steel, aluminium and project cargoes,
to name but a few. Western Basin No. 3 and No. 4 are
also common user berths available to Newcastle Stevedores
and their clients, and feature rail access direct
under ships hook. Bulk cargoes are primarily handled
at either K2 or K3 berths, both of which Newcastle Stevedores

Newcastle Stevedores, through its extensive service
provider relationships and sub-contractor management plan can
provide clients with a total logistics package, and is happy
to arrange the complete door to door movement of project
freight. Should a client require extended services beyond the
‘traditional stevedoring realms’, Newcastle Stevedores is
positioned to manage the whole transport chain responsibility,
including customs clearances, thereby fulfilling a huge
spectrum of customer needs.

Geoff Beesley – Managing Director
Geoff has almost 50 years experience in the shipping
industry, the majority of which was spent with P&O. In
1997, after parting company with P&O, he saw the
opportunity to start his own stevedoring business. He has
managed Container and Consolidation depots, shipping agencies
aswell as stevedoring interests. |

James Griffiths – Operations Manager
James Griffiths started with NS in 1998, as a Casual
Waterside Worker. He has been fortunate enough to experience a
wide exposure to the industry during the last 7 years,
including roles within Shipping Agencies, Cargo Consolidation
Facilities and here at NS. |

Capt. Ian Marr – Cargo Superintendent
Capt. Ian Marr is a Master Mariner with almost 20 years experience
at sea. He ‘came ashore’ in the early 1970’s and commenced
an extensive career with BHP as Stevedoring Superintendent
in Portland, Whyalla, Port Kembla and Newcastle. He
later became Manager of Patrick Stevedores in Newcastle
for a duration of 12yrs, before joining NS in 1998.
Darrel Madden - Wharf Superintendent
Darrel Madden has over 20 years experience as a waterside
worker, He worked for Patrick and Strang Stevedores
prior to commencing with NS in 2001. Darrel spent time
workin g as a Grade 5 and 6 foreman prior to moving
to his Superintendent role.

Mario Lajoie - Wharf Superintendent
Mario Lajoie comes to us from Canada. Mario spent six
years as a ships officer where he was involved in loading
and unloading from a vessel point of view, prior to
coming ashore and working the last seven years in stevedoring
operations from a wharf perspective. |
